The Shallows

Nicholas Carr’s book The Shallows talks about the effect of the Internet on our brain. The writer believes that people read less carefully because they always jump from one website to another. He says the Internet teaches us to look for fast information instead of thinking slowly and deeply.

I think his opinion is partly right. Many students today find it hard to read long books. They prefer short messages, videos, or posts. I also sometimes feel I lose focus when I spend too much time online. In this way, Carr is correct, because the Internet really changes our habits.

But I also see the positive side of the Internet. It helps us study better, find answers quickly, and communicate with people everywhere. It gives us knowledge that books alone cannot give. The problem is not the Internet itself, but how people use it.

For me, the best solution is balance. We should spend time online, but also read books and think quietly. In this way, we can keep both fast learning and deep thinking.
